Versatile Workington Town half-back Jamie Doran warned that you can't write Whitehaven off despite their recent results.

Town and Haven will go head-to-head at the Championship's Summer Bash in Blackpool on Saturday, with both teams desperate to claw back points.

And Whitehaven-born Doran said Town would be going prepared for a Haven side that will come out all guns blazing to earn local bragging rights.

"We know that they had a large defeat against London which may weigh on their minds," said Doran.

"But you can't always look at form going into a Cumbrian derby as they are always fiery to say the least.

"We may look the more comfortable going into the game but you can never take anything in to these games."

Town go into the game on the back of a good performance against Batley, despite the win just slipping away from them in the final minutes.

But Doran admits that they are finally starting to find form, coming into the key part of the season as they try and rise off the bottom of the division.

"Last weekend could have been worse for us as the other fixtures went our way with teams around us losing," he added.

"This is where we need to kick on now, starting on Saturday, this is a must win.

"I feel like our form has been a long time coming but on Sunday I thought personally it was our fault that we lost the game.

"It wasn't that Batley were better than us, although they are a good side. But I thought we lost it with some stupid decisions at vital times and making mistakes trying to push the offload."

Doran also indicated he was getting back to his best, after a short spell on the sidelines.

He added: "I feel I went a bit rocky and got left out of the team but in the last couple of weeks I feel I've started to get back to real form.

"I can't put my finger on exactly what went wrong but Phil Veivers told me to take my time and start leading the team about the pitch and talking more.

"As a half-back I need to do that and maybe I was a little quiet and I went off and worked on bossing them around more."

But after getting his opportunity to break back into the team, Doran has not looked back.

"I can slip in at hooker as well which is how I first got back in at Whitehaven when we had no Matty or Callum and then against Leigh as well," said Doran.

"I feel like that gave me more confidence, playing two full 80 minutes in the space of five days.

"It gave me a boost to crack on and I knew I wanted a position in this team so I kicked on from there."
