Ellenborough forward Brad Fearon is set to prop up the Workington Town pack next season.

The 6ft 3in player has signed on the dotted line for Town for 2017, as they continue to build a predominantly Cumbrian based side for life in League One.

Fearon was a member of Town boss Dave Clark’s Cumbria Storm team but returned to spend the last couple of seasons at Ellenborough.

Workington assistant coach Jonty Gorley said: “I’ve known Brad since he played for Elbra under-16s and he has always stood out.

“As well as being a huge lad he knows how to play rugby league and is very good at the technical side of the game.

“He knows how to run the angles, comes on to the ball at pace and his short pass and offload skills are excellent.

“He’s already doing a lot of intensive work to gain the fitness that he needs and, with a pre-season under Matt Johnson, I’m confident he’ll be an awesome player for us.”

Fearon said it was a dream come true for him to pull on a Town shirt and he couldn’t wait to get started.

He said: “I’m delighted to sign for Workington. I’ve watched them since I was a kid and I’ve always dreamed of pulling on the jersey to play for my local team.

“I can’t wait to join up with Dave Clark again.

“I’m working hard in pre-season and my ambition is to get into the team for many seasons to come.

“I’d like to thank Mike Dempsey and Matty Todd at Elbra who have coached me at amateur level. I hope to do them proud.”

And Dave Clark admitted Fearon’s enthusiasm for the game was a breath of fresh air.

He added: “I’ve known Brad for a few years since I coached Cumbria Storm where he was a stand out player. He runs very hard and has a great offload. He fell out with the game a little over the last couple of years but I wanted him at the club.

“He’ll get an intensive pre-season with us and I know that he is really eager to get going with us.

“His enthusiasm for joining Town was a breath of fresh air and I look forward to working with him again.”
