Workington Town fans hope skipper Carl Forber will cap his 300th career appearance with a victory in today's West Cumbrian derby.

Forber will hit the triple century when he steps out at Derwent Park this afternoon against Whitehaven in the hotly anticipated League 1 game, ko 3pm.

The half-back has hit a rich vein of form this season and is equal third top points scorer in League 1 so far this season with 36 to his name, alongside Barrow's Lewis Charnock.

Town chairman, Garry Mounsey, said: "This is a magnificent achievement for a professional rugby league player.

"And 211 of those appearances have been for Town and the board and fans would like to express our thanks for that.

"Carl has been a consistently great player for Town and his points record is magnificent.

"He's also a great person to have around the club and this was recognised this year when Dave Clark made him team captain.

"We hope he has a great 300th appearance, topped off by a win."

Town's director of rugby Les Ashe has warned that Haven's powerful pack could prove dangerous today.

Ashe admitted the battle could be won or lost in the middle of the field, with everyone needing to stand up and be counted.

He said: "Haven have got a good balance across the park but they have some really good front rowers in Carl Forster, Marc Shackley, Glenn Riley, who has been going well and Tommy Holland.

"They have also got two good half-backs who direct them around the park.

"And then if the ball comes out to the left hand side, Scott McAvoy, Jessie Joe Parker and Craig Calvert can prove dangerous.

"But we have to look to ourselves and try and show the form that we did at Barrow.

"The result is important as it is two league points at stake and it is a big game for the fans and everyone involved with both clubs."
