Former Workington Town star of the 1960s Ray Glastonbury rolled back the years as he poked around his old stomping ground before watching the Good Friday derby against Whitehaven.

The winger, who racked up 133 tries in his 206 appearances for the club between 1962 and 1968, travelled up from his home in Wales for the game.

Ray’s daughter Janine said: “Dad has probably been back a couple of times with my mum but not for 15 or 20 years, so he was very nostalgic and quite emotional.

"He absolutely loved it and the fuss they made of him, seeing some of his old team-mates.

“My sister and I were actually born up here when he was playing for Workington.

“It was fabulous, we had such a good time.

“It was a really good match and all the people are so warm up there and very friendly.”

Ray had a peek in the changing room where he had pulled on the Town jersey so many times and was presented with a copy of the programme from his home debut.

He was also joined by a number of his former team-mates, including Arnold "Boxer" Walker and John "Spanky" McFarlane.

Janine added: “He was really impressed with the programme, he couldn’t believe it.”
