Ex-Workington Town captain Neil 'Gus' Frazer is back at the Zebra Claims Stadium – this time as a coach.

And the former centre/winger is keen to help the next generation of Town stars fulfil their potential.

He will join head coach Dave Clark's backroom staff as they gear up for a tilt at the League One title next season.

"I’m delighted to be back at the club," said Frazer. "I loved every minute of my time here and can’t wait to join the other lads and wear the club badge again.

"There’s a real buzz about the place as we prepare for the 2017 season.

"We’re putting together a team that isn’t just 2017 but the seasons following and I want to pass on my knowledge to the younger players coming through."

Frazer played for 12 seasons at Town and is highly respected at the club and by fans for his leadership and commitment over a long career.

He cut his coaching teeth at Seaton in the 2014 and 2015 seasons when the club won the Cumberland Cup and the County Cup, alongside the current Town director of rugby Les Ashe.

And he was assistant coach to Gary Broadbent and Ashe with the Cumbria team that won the 2015 Tri-County competition against Yorkshire and Lancashire.

The appointment adds to a very experienced coaching team to support Clark.

He now has assistant coach Jonty Gorley, plus coaching support from Craig Barker and Matthew Johnson who has rejoined the club recently from Whitehaven as strength and conditioning coach.

Clark said: "I want to surround myself with people who have the club in their blood.

"People who can articulate what it means to play for Town and the pride they feel from their career history.

"Gus is also a great coach. He did a cracking job at Seaton with Les Ashe and with the Cumbria county team with Ashey and Gary Broadbent.

"He’ll be providing technical coaching support to the team."
