Stand-out second rower Matt Gee has joined his former Workington Town team-mate Jarrod Sammut at London Broncos.

Gee, who spent the majority of last season on-loan with Workington from Salford Red Devils, has signed a one-year deal with the leading Championship outfit.

“I’ll always be grateful for the opportunities Salford and Workington gave me, and I’ve really loved my time with both clubs, but it was time for a change in my career,” said Gee.

“I’m really excited for the move down south, and the chance to play with London.

“I’ve had a good taste of Championship experience with Town this year, and I’m excited to help the Broncos in their challenge for promotion back to Super League. 2017 should be a good year.”

The 21-year-old originally came to Workington on a one-month loan deal which was then extended for the remainder of the season.

And the versatile youngster was one of the top performers throughout, despite having to relocate to various positions to fill gaps caused by injury.

And he finished the season winning the young supporters’ player of the year award.

London head coach, Andrew Henderson, said he likes to keep an eye out for talented players who have not yet been widely noticed, and Gee fills those shoes perfectly.

“Matt is a utility forward and can play anywhere in the pack, so will add further strength in depth and competition for places,” he said.

“I see him primarily as a loose forward, but the fact he can play on the edge as a back rower and up front swayed me to secure his services.

“Add to the fact he had a good season on loan at Workington and was one of their better performers on a regular basis.

“I do tend to look for players that go under the radar, and take a chance on players hungry for an opportunity, and Matt fits the bill.”
