Volunteers have been spending their spare time helping to get Workington Town’s Zebra Claims Stadium up to scratch for Friday’s mammoth Four Nations clash.

Town fans have stepped forward to spruce up the ground for the big game between Scotland and New Zealand, ko 8pm.

Stobbarts Ltd have also been involved in some ground work while students from Lakes College have given the walls a lick of paint.

“Everyone has been really enthusiastic,” said Town director Tony Boyd, who, along with other members of the board, has also given a helping hand.

“We delighted that a group of supporters came down and gave up their free time to to help us clean up and prepare for the Four Nations.

“They all came on a volunteer basis which is just fantastic. And a group of students from Lakes College have been painting and decorating for us. They are doing an outstanding job as part of their training, painting the front of the grandstand walls.

“They have been enthusiastic and it is great practical experience for them.

“Stobbarts Ltd have also been in getting some jobs sorted for us so that the ground will be ready for Friday.”

Ticket sales are closing in on the 6,000 mark as the game draws nearer but there are still some remaining.

Town were hoping to better their attendances from the 2013 World Cup when they had around 7,500 at the two matches involving Scotland, Tonga and Italy.
