Stuart Howarth will come back into contention for Workington Town ahead of the Good Friday derby against arch-rivals Whitehaven.

Howarth missed the narrow loss to Barrow last Saturday but he comes into the squad this week to replace the injured Macauley Davies.

The Wigan youngster picked up a nasty ankle injury at Craven Park and will definitely miss the League 1 clash at Derwent Park, ko 3pm.

One or two players are also carrying knocks but they will face late fitness checks before Dave Clark announces his final team.

Town have come out on top in both of this season's early encounters, in the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy and the iPro Cup.

But director of rugby, Les Ashe, says the league points are the most important thing at stake in this fixture.

"The pre-season game was for the recognition of a club legend and the second was a cup competition but now it is all about league points," said Ashe.

"That has to be the priority and it can sometimes be forgotten when you get caught up in a derby.

"Form goes out of the window in matches like this. Whoever turns up with the biggest will to win will prevail.

"It can all come down to that or even just the bounce of the ball on the day."

Town will have the backing of some of the club's former legends on the day.

Star of the 1960s Ray Glastonbury is heading back to Derwent Park for another taste of derby action.

The winger, who racked up 133 tries in his 206 appearances, is travelling up from his home in Wales for the clash with Haven and some of his former team-mates will also be watching the game.

John 'Spanky' McFarlane, Alan Sewell, Billy Smith, Howard 'Smiler' Allen, Phil Kitchin and Arnold 'Boxer' Walker will all be guests of Workington as they catch up with their former team-mate.

Town will be wearing club captain Jason Mossop's testimonial shirt for the occasion in the red and black colours of his former amateur side Hensingham.

The shirts will then be auctioned off in the bar after the match if fans would like to go along.
