Workington Town centre Declan Hulme says he is ready to go for the start of the Championship after making a full recovery from injury.

Hulme fractured his ankle whilst on dual-registration with Whitehaven last season but has since made two pre-season appearances for Town, including the full game against Haven last weekend.

With Sheffield visiting Zebra Claims Stadium a week on Sunday, Hulme says he is ready for 2016.

"I'm feeling good after the Haven game," he said. "It was the first 80-minute performance I've put in since my injury.

"I played one half the week before against Barrow and, coming back off my injury, I didn't want to push things too early.

"But I knew I needed a full game to get ready for the start of the new season.

"I'm looking ahead to the Sheffield game and I'm hoping to be fully fit and ready to go."

Hulme was left frustrated as a result of the poor conditions in his side's 12-6 defeat to Whitehaven in the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy fixture, but insists that getting game time had been the priority for the side.

"Looking at training we only had 17 players available and it was about us blowing the cobwebs away and getting out on the pitch," he continued. "Conditions weren't great but it's good to get minutes in at this stage of the season.

"It was frustrating playing in those conditions because we've been practising on astroturf at Netherhall and you want to take work from the training ground into a game.

"We needed to grind out a result and credit to Haven who managed to do that.

"We came into the sheds at half-time and talked about keeping possession. Haven had some points on the board and we knew what we needed to do.

"We got some good field position and territory but unfortunately there were too many unforced errors and mistakes, some of which were down to the conditions."
