Former dual code international Alan Tait is heading back to his roots next month when he returns to Workington Town.

Scottish rugby union and league star Tait grew up in Workington, where his father, Alan Tait Senior played for Town between 1967 and 1974.

And he is returning as guest speaker for the next Workington Town Vice Presidents Evening on Friday, June 2 in the Tom Mitchell Lounge at Derwent Park.

Tait played union first and made his Test debut for Scotland in the 1987 World Cup.

The following year he switched codes to league and spent the next eight years playing for Widnes and Leeds, starring in premiership victories and winning the Harry Sunderland Trophy as Widnes’ man-of-the-match in both 1988/89 and 1989/90.

He also added a World Club Challenge victory against Canberra Raiders in 1989 to his trophy cabinet, as well as a League Cup victory over Leeds in 1991/92.

Tait represented Scotland and Great Britain at rugby league, including being selected to play for Great Britain in the 1992 World Cup Final at Wembley.

In 1996 he switched codes back to union signing for Newcastle Falcons with whom he won the Premiership in 1998. He made his return for Scotland and went on to represent the British Lions in South Africa.

He was also head coach at Newcastle Falcons from 2009 to 2012.

His father Alan Tait Snr played 136 games for Workington, scoring 40 tries.

This is a Vice Presidents event, but there will be some places available to anyone else interested in attending.
