Workington Town have snapped up their former centre John Patrick to help them through their current injury crisis.

Patrick answered an SOS from his former club this week after they were struck by further injury blows to Sam Forrester and Tee Ritson, among others.

And the experienced centre has signed for the club until the end of the season.

Town vice chairman Mark Fryer said: "John played at the back end of last year for us and Phil Veivers wanted him to carry on.

"But at the time he didn't think he could commit fully to the side so he left.

"But with our present injury situation we asked him if he would return and he has put his hand up to help us out."

Patrick has been playing amateur RL for Seaton so comes into the Town squad match fit and Fryer believes he can do the job.

"We snapped him back up after the injuries to Sam and Tee and he will fit in nicely," he added.

Patrick goes right into the 19-man squad that Veivers has named for tomorrow's visit of Swinton Lions.

Marc Shackley is also named which is another boost to Town after the prop had hyper extended his elbow.

Lions boss John Duffy has warned his players that Workington will be a dangerous team to face tomorrow.

Duffy, who spent time at Whitehaven as a player, admitted that in his experience, the Zebra Claims Stadium can be a tough uncompromising place to go.

And with his own squad suffering some niggling injuries, he is waiting until the last minute to finalise his side.

Duffy said: "I know from experience that Workington is a tough place to go to at the best of times.

"We’re wary of the influence that Sammut has for them, and we’re also conscious of their hooker Callum Phillips. Matty Gee can also be a useful weapon for them.

"So we know their strengths and weaknesses, but it’s all irrelevant unless we turn up ourselves from the off.

"We’ve a couple of niggly injuries and I’ll see how we are on Saturday morning before I name my final 17."
