Workington Town utility man Perry Whiteley says he wants to make right the disappointment of last season in 2016.

Whiteley joined Town before the 2015 season after a stint in Australia and made 22 appearances during 2015.

“Last year was a bit disappointing for me,” he admitted. “I thought I started off well, then I had a few poor performances.

“I let some off-field things affect my game, but I now know that I’m better than that.

“So this year is about putting things right both for the club and for myself.”

Initially plying his trade at centre, Whiteley said he may find himself also playing in the back-row this season.

“I prefer playing out in the backs but I’m not sure what Phil’s [Veivers] plans are for me,” said the player.

“I don’t mind where I play. It’ll just be good to get out on the field. I’m really looking forward to getting on to the pitch on Sunday.

“We’re all looking forward to the Sheffield game. I just hope the conditions are better than they were in pre-season.

“Those games served their purpose and gave us a bit of a hit-out and a chance to do some defensive work, but it’s not the same as playing a proper game.”
