Workington Town club captain Jason Mossop has revealed his testimonial shirt.

In recognition of his 10 years service to Workington Town, the club has also agreed to wear the shirt as the club's away shirt for the 2017 season.

Mossop, who began as a junior at Hensingham, was keen to celebrate the amateur club where he started his rugby career.

The shirt is therefore a homage to the red and black shirts worn by the Hensingham club and to the Town strips of the 70s that sported a distinctive V design.

Mossop said: "Being a kid playing rugby and growing up as a Hensingham player meant everything to me.

"My dad was coach so there always a little bit of added pressure. Those years were so enjoyable as I was playing the sport I loved with people who have been mates for life.

"I started playing rugby when I was five and played all of my youth rugby there so I owe the club so much.

"Young players these days have so many opportunities that we never had and a lot of teams are monitoring Cumbria so if they work hard they can be very successful in rugby league."

Town chairman Garry Mounsey said the club were delighted to be able to back Mossop's testimonial by using the jersey as an away kit.

"We’re honoured to wear the Jason Mossop testimionial shirt for the 2017 season," he said.

"Loyalty is very much valued by the Town board and by our fans. Jason has shown great commitment to Workington and we wanted to recognise that as a club.

"We wish him a great season on and off the pitch and hope that he has a very successful testimonial year."

Workington's pop up shop in the town centre is open every day until Christmas Eve, due to popular demand.

The shop is in the former Fashion Lounge unit on Campbell-Savours Way and you can pre-order the new away shirt there.
