Winger Chris Murphy says Workington Town are out to show their loyal fans what they have been missing when they take on Batley on Sunday.

Town have had a faltering start to the season but picked up their second win of the term at full-timers Sheffield last Saturday.

And Murphy says his side are out to try and make the Zebra Claims Stadium a place to be feared once more and show the fans they are still in this campaign.

“It was nice to get back to winning ways at Sheffield,” admitted Murphy. “And hopefully we can do it again on Sunday, this time in our own town.

“We want to show the fans what they have been missing all year.

“Hopefully we can build on the Sheffield result and show them that we are still in this and we are fighting for our performances every week.

“We all want to build up as one and go into the Super Eights on form.”

He added: “On Sunday we have the advantage of being at home and although we have not made it into a fortress of late, we feel like we can turn Batley over.

“Last time we played them here it was a close game and if we keep getting the little things right then we can do it.”

Murphy said there was no one big catalyst that finally turned around Town’s fortunes and led to the 37-30 win at Sheffield. He put it down to the team putting all their little mistakes right.

He said: “It was about focusing on the little things and getting them right and putting the effort in for each other which helped the performance overall.”

Town face a difficult couple of weeks and are targeting wins from the visit of Batley and then the derby clash with Whitehaven at the Blackpool Summer Bash.
