Barnstorming prop Oliver Gordon is set to boost Workington Town ahead of Sunday's crunch derby showdown with Whitehaven.

Gordon's return from injury is a huge bonus to boss Phil Veivers who is looking to collect a second Championship win in two weeks.

"He has been very consistent for the whole year," said Veivers. "You get what's written on the side of the package with Olly.

"He carries the ball strongly and defends strongly and he plays a lot of minutes as well. So his return will be good for us."

Town and Haven are currently occupying the two relegation berths in the Championship so this derby has added meaning for both teams.

Haven have the upper hand in league victories this season but Town will be going all out to seal this win at home, ko 3pm.

"This is a big game for both parties. Both teams are bottom and second bottom of this division and fighting tooth and nail to stay in this division.

"It is imperative that we go out there and get the win and they will be saying the same thing.

"James Coyle will want to leave Whitehaven in the same division as when he took over and the players will be wanting to send him off on a high."

Haven have had their fair share of injuries lately but Veivers believe they will send a strong side to the Zebra Claims Stadium.

"Whitehaven had a few missing last week against Bradford but I'm sure many will be back for this week," added Veivers.

"They have the Chapelhow twins from Widnes on dual reg and some big guys of their own with Andy Yates on loan and Ben Davies there.

"So we know we have to combat that and they are also good out on the edge.

"Dion Aiye is always a threat and Louis Jouffret coming up from the back is always a threat as well.

"We know when we play them that we have to be strong across the board."
