Frustrated Workington Town boss Phil Veivers was left fuming after his side were just edged out by Bradford Bulls.

Crucial refereeing decisions in the final minutes of the game led to Bradford taking the victory 29-22 and they left Veivers and his side disappointed after a superb performance.

The two sides were locked at 22-22 with seven minutes remaining when Town were penalised for a contentious knock-on decision.

And then moments later it appeared that the Bradford player did not play the ball correctly but the Bulls went on to score in that set of six.

And with Danny Addy's conversion and the drop-goal that followed, it was game, set and match to the Bulls.

"We were good, we started slowly and let them in for a few soft tries," said Veivers.

"Then we scored a good try in the second half to get us into a position that we could really get at them.

"And I thought we did that, we got right at them and put ourselves in a winning position.

"It's a shame when you get to the end of a game and you're talking about a referee and he's deciding on who wins the game."

Town had put in a superb 80-minute performance against the full-timers, with Jarrod Sammut, Jason Mossop, Tee Ritson and Ryan Verlinden to the fore.

Veivers was pleased with his own side, adding: "I thought Tee Ritson was outstanding today. His second game back after a long lay off and I thought they couldn't handle him with his carries.

"For 80 minutes I thought we had a real good dig and I thought we had a shot at it.

"We missed a couple of try scoring opportunities, one in the first and one in the second but I'm just fuming with what's gone on in the last five minutes.

"We scored some nice tries and, at the end of the day, we played a full time outfit who have got very high aspirations of being in Super League and I thought we went toe to toe with them and matched them across the park."
