Workington Town prop Marc Shackley insists that his side’s winning run has made all the difference and that spirits are high ahead of this weekend’s game against Hunslet Hawks.

Town played the Hawks on the final day of the regular season and came away with a 30-6 win.

Shackley and his teammates are currently on a four-game winning run which started with Town’s superb 28-6 over Whitehaven in July.

“That one win made all the difference,” Shackley said. “Things are looking up at the moment and we’ve been playing really well.

“We knew we had it in us and it was great to win in Whitehaven’s back yard.

“It had been tough earlier in the year because we went from having one of the best defences in the league last season to having one of the poorest this year.

“But we’ve picked up our concentration and we’re going really well.”

Shackley made 24 appearances for Town this season and is looking forward to taking on Hunslet for the third time this year.

“They’re a good team,” he continued. “They’ve got some good players in the halves and are a tough team to beat away from home.

“We did really well to get a result a couple of weeks ago but we started poorly, I think they took us by surprise.

“But we’ve hit a bit of form now and we’ll be ready for the game.

“It was difficult a few months ago when we had a tough run of fixtures and were getting beat but we’re on a roll now and hopefully we’ll get a place in the play-offs at the end of the season.”
