Tee Ritson could be set for a return to Workington Town colours sooner than expected.

The young full-back suffered an agonising knee injury on Newcastle Thunder’s artificial pitch and questions were raised as to whether he would feature at all this year.

But after wearing a brace and following doctor's orders, the talented youngster is on course to return before the end of the season.
Town director of rugby Les Ashe, said; "He is coming on really well. Tee is working really hard with the medical staff and our conditioner Matthew Johnson.

"He is determined to get back on the field quicker than any of us could have hoped for.

"Obviously we will err on the side of caution with him but we are hoping he will return for the back end of the season."

This would be a huge boost for the Town side with Ritson one of their emerging stars from last season.

Workington have no match this weekend with the League 1 Cup final taking place at the Championship's Summer Bash in Blackpool.

But they will be back in action the following Sunday when they welcome Doncaster to Derwent Park.

Ashe admitted the break could be good and bad for the club after last weekend's loss at Hunslet.

"After Sunday's result we would have like to get right back out there and try and rectify things," said Ashe.

"But on the flip side it does give some of our lads who are carrying knocks, time to recover.

"We were extremely disappointed with the results at Hunslet but we couldn't fault the effort and endeavour of our players.

"It was a match of contrasting halves. We came from a position at half time where we looked like we were going to win the game to midway through the second half thinking we had lost it.

"We clawed our way back into it which shows character but we were disappointed not to get the points at the end of the day."
