Workington head coach Phil Veivers was bitterly disappointed with his side’s poor defensive display at Featherstone.

Rock-bottom Town lost 44-22 at Rovers, and Veivers said: “We created enough opportunities in the first half to beat Featherstone, but we came up with too many errors, which led to them scoring four tries.

“Then we started the second half brightly, but we dropped the ball over the line and had two other chances.

“Then we were starved of possession and they scored three further tries but we came back at the end with a good spell and three late tries, which shows what we can do when we apply ourselves properly.”

When asked about the poor defensive effort he went on to say: “That’s been our problem all year. We have no difficulty scoring tries, it’s working out how to stop them.

“There were some glaring individual errors that cost us points.”

Veivers did give credit to Featherstone for a good display, especially by their half backs

Anthony Thackeray and Kyle Briggs, although he thought that Callum Phillips made a difference for Town when he moved into the halves, a point emphasised by legendary prop Karl Harrison who was at the game.
