Workington Town have re-signed former BARLA international John Patrick as they continue to build their squad for 2017.

Patrick rejoined Town late last season when he answered the club's call to arms following their crippling injury list.

The centre/winger said he was keen to help Town rebuild and said there was no other club he would rather be at.

"I got my appetite for rugby league back last season when I signed to help Town out," said Patrick.

"There is no other club I would want to play for. The Town fans are brilliant.

"They welcomed me back with open arms and showed me great support as I came back into the team last season."

Patrick made four appearances last term and scored two tries.

He first signed for Town in 2010 but took two seasons away from the game to work in Iraq.

He again signed for Phil Veivers in 2014 before taking another season off due to the birth of his daughter.

But now he is back on board and the club is delighted to keep him as they continue to build a locally based side.

Town chairman Garry Mounsey said: "John is a seasoned rugby league player who is fast and strong.

"He takes the ball in from any position on the pitch and is a real handful because of his size.

"He put in some strong performances at the end of last season and will do a great job for us in League One."

Patrick joins Stevie Scholey, Tee Ritson and top Seaton prospect Tom Curwen in joining Town for next season.

The deadline for applications for the coaching role has now passed and directors are now set to interview and get somebody in place as soon as possible.
