Workington Town have signed promising youngster Jamie Doran on a two-year deal.

Whitehaven-born Doran has been on loan at Town from Wigan Warriors this year but has committed to Town after what has been a successful season for the youngster at Zebra Claims Stadium.

The 20-year-old is the second new arrival brought to the club before the end of this season as he joins centre Declan Hulme in the squad for 2016.

Doran said the opportunity he has been given by Workington was too good to turn down.

“I’m really happy that I know where I’m going to be for the next two years,” he said. “Being from Whitehaven, I wasn’t too sure about things to start with but everyone was really welcoming when I first started out.

“I’m really enjoying my time at the club, I’m loving being part of the team and the fans have been great to me too.

“I don’t think they have seen the best of me yet and I’m always trying to improve as a player.”

Doran was previously on the books at Wigan’s Under-19s and also made a couple of appearances for the Warriors in Super League last year.

“It was really important for me to get some game time at the start of the season,” Doran continued. “If I hadn’t played for Town I would have being sat on the sidelines at Wigan.

“It’s my first full year at this level and I want to kick on now and show people what I’m capable of.”

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s derby Doran added: “I’ve been looking forward to it since the end of the London game last weekend.

“We want to make it five out of five against them. We’re all fired up for it and it’ll be another challenge for us.

“Both sides have a few injuries by the looks of things but there can’t be any excuses on Sunday.”

Town director Gary Mounsey said: “We are delighted to have a player of his skill at the club.

“Jamie can play in a variety of positions and he is an excellent young player who we believe will develop further over the next two years.”

“It’s important for us to get the best local talent in the club and in signing Jamie we believe we have added to that.

“It shows that if you are a talented local player you will get opportunities at this club.”
