Rising star Tee Ritson has handed Workington Town a major boost by committing to another season.

Ritson, who scooped three top awards at the club’s recent presentation night, signed a new deal this week.

And the club was delighted to welcome the youngster back as they prepare for life in League One next season.

Town director of rugby Les Ashe said: “We are absolutely delighted that Tee has decided to stay with us.

“He fully deserved the awards he got at the presentation evening, it was testament to how well he has played all year and how much he has improved.”

Ritson broke through and held down a regular place in Town’s first team last season, playing the majority of games on the wing.

And after earning accolades, he also received an international call-up for the Thailand squad to face Malta on October 29.

“It is great that he has an international call and we possibly see him fighting for the full-back position this year as well.

“We think he could be more effective from there but obviously that will be down to the new coach.”

Ashe praised Ritson for all his hard work and said this was his time to shine.

He added: “Tee comes from a great background and he has worked really hard at the club since he joined.

“Last season was the one where he broke through into the first team and became a regular. Without doubt he will be pivotal to our promotion fight at Workington.”

Ritson is the second member of last season’s squad to re-sign this week, following in the footsteps of forward Stevie Scholey as the club looks to build a strong local side.

And Ritson admitted this was key to him staying at the Zebra Claims Stadium.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Workington since I signed. My game has improved steadily over my time here since I joined from Cumbria Academy.

“I have been able to learn from some great players.

“Last year was a difficult year but Les talked to me about the club’s desire to build a primarily locally based side.

“Town are my hometown side and I’m really looking forward to the new season.”
