Talismanic Workington Town half-back Jarrod Sammut is out of this weekend’s trip to Bradford after injuring his calf.

This is a major blow for Workington, whose injury problems have been well documented in the first part of this season.

And they will now have to head to Odsal on Sunday without their key playmaker, looking for just their second win of the season against Bradford.

The former Super League star is being assessed by a specialist to find out the full extent of the injury and see how long he will be out of action.

Meanwhile coach Phil Veivers says Bradford will be a tough prospect on their home turf.

“I have been looking at Bradford’s last three games and how they have gone. They lost a couple prior to winning against Dewsbury but they are a very good team,” said Veivers.

“They have a lot of talented players and we have to give them respect.

“We have done all the homework on the opposition now we need to apply what we have learned on Sunday.”

Veivers says he has been working hard with his players in the lead up to this match.

"We have been getting really physical with each other," said Veivers. "It seems to be something the players have enjoyed and the sessions have been really positive.

"I like how they have reacted to it and hopefully it will show against Bradford."

Town are currently bottom of the Championship table and in desperate need of points.

Nearest rivals Whitehaven, Swinton and Oldham are four points clear of them.
