Young Workington Town winger Sam Forrester has suffered another injury blow which looks set to curtail his season.

The former BARLA international broke his thumb in last weekend's narrow defeat against Bradford and may have to go under the knife.

He joins forward Jarrad Stack on the operating table as the Aussie is to undergo a shoulder reconstruction, also ruling him out of action this term.

Coach Phil Veivers admitted these were further blows in a season where injury has ruled at the Zebra Claims Stadium.

"It has been the story of the season," said Veivers. "We started off with seven players out through close season operations.

"And every time we got one or two back, we would lose a couple more until it got to the point where we played against Whitehaven and Leigh over Easter weekend with 15 and 14 players respectively."

It has been a frustrating season for former Maryport amateur Forrester who had just got back in the team after a spell out with damaged ankle ligaments.

"Sam probably needs his thumb pinned which means he will miss the rest of the season," said Veivers.

"I said to him that sometimes you just have a season like this and we just hope this has been his year for injury and he can come back next year and have a long, extended run in the team."

Brett Carter and Tom Walker will also be missing tomorrow as Town make the trip to table-toppers Leigh Centurions.

Carter had a reaction to an insect bite that required medical attention and Walker suffered a quad strain.
