Workington Town have announced a trio of players who have committed themselves to the club for the 2016 season.

Scotland international Alex Szostak and former amateur players Stevie Scholey and Sam Forrester have each signed year-long deals.

Szostak rejoined the club earlier this year after missing the first half of the season due to work commitments and became an immediate fixture in Phil Veivers’ starting line-up.

Prop forward Scholey was given a contract after impressing during a trial period at the start of the year and went on to make 18 appearances in his debut professional season.

And former BARLA international Forrester signed from Maryport and scored three tries in 15 appearances for Town in an injury-hit season.

Head coach Phil Veivers said he was delighted with the signings as it brings him a step closer to finalising his squad for the 2016 season.

“Alex offers a lot of experience," Veivers said. "He’s been around a Championship winning side in Sheffield and I worked with him at Bradford.

“He’s got the experience and he’s a leader too. You could see at the back end of the season how he went about his business.

“With Stevie and Sam I think they both probably played more games than they may have expected at the start of the season.

“Stevie backed himself to come and train with us and we offered him a deal and credit to him for putting that effort in.

“Sam needs to now find the balance between working and playing rugby.”

Veivers confirmed that the club is still in talks with half-back Jarrod Sammut over a possible deal after the Aussie-born star spent the back end of last season at Zebra Claims Stadium.
