Workington Town boss Phil Veivers says their current league position does not worry him unduly.

Town are bottom of the Championship, four points adrift of their nearest rivals Oldham, with Whitehaven, Swinton, Dewsbury and Sheffield six points clear.

But Veivers says if they can get players back and find their form they will be okay.

"I'm not particularly worried at the moment. I ran the rule over where we are now compared to last year and the year before," said Veivers.

"There is not a lot of difference between the three seasons and hopefully we can get Jarrod Sammut back for the Sheffield game and pick up some wins towards the back end.

"If we can get some wins then we will go into the super eights in a good position to stay where we are at."

He did admit that this start was not what he wanted when he began preparations for the new season.

"We didn't want to be where we are at," he acknowledged. "We hit the ground walking instead of running but I'm not unduly concerned at this moment in time.

"There are still plenty of games to play and we are capable of winning."

Town head to Halifax this weekend without Aussie forward Oliver Gordon and Kris Coward, who are both injured.

Gordon strained his lower abdomen and Coward has pulled his hamstring ruling them both out of Veivers' plans

He is also awaiting news from the neurologist after Callum Phillips and Chris Murphy were checked over after taking knocks to the head against Bradford.

But Town are set to be boosted by the return of Jarrad Stack and possibly Sam Forrester and Liam McAvoy.

There is still a question mark over Karl Olstrom and Jarrod Sammut is hoped to be right for the Sheffield game.
