Workington Town head coach Phil Veivers says there are no hard feelings towards former players Elliot Miller and Nathan Lucock after they left the club.

It was announced on Wednesday that Lucock had joined rivals Whitehaven and it is understood that Miller will soon be unveiled as his teammate at The Recreation Ground.

“People make decisions in life and they do things for their own reasons,” Veivers said.

“Nathan is a young, up-and-coming hooker who hasn’t had a lot of opportunities this year.

“I spoke to Elliot last week and he told me about his decision.

“It does help me as a coach. I said last year that I wanted to get things sorted out early and that’s no different this time round.

“I’ve made no secret of the size of squad I want for next season and there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes at the moment.”

Speaking about Brett Carter and Callum Phillips after their call-ups to the Scotland training squad Veivers added: “It’s great for them and it’s a reward for the hard work they have put in during the year.

“It’s good for them as individuals and it’s good for the club too.

“It’s a shame for Brett [Phillips] and Alex [Szostak] who miss out.

“Brett has been carrying an injury for the last month or so and we need to make sure he’s right for next year.”
