Workington Town head coach Phil Veivers says he hopes to speak to the remainder of his squad this week in preparation for the 2016 season.

The Town boss said that discussions with players started earlier this month and that there are ‘three or four’ more members of the team who will be spoken to regarding their place in the side next season.

The news comes after Town announced during Sunday’s game against Featherstone Rovers that the club have signed former Widnes Vikings centre Declan Hulme for 2016.

“I’ve got three or four, maybe five, members of the squad I need to speak to about going forward next season,” Veivers said.

“Everyone will have been spoken to by the end of the week.

“I’d like to sign around six players for next season, we need a big squad with dual-registration going out the window. It’s the first year of this format and having as many games as this during a season.

“Dual registration was available to us this year and I think that the 30 mark is enough to get you through.

“I think we’ve had 40-odd players play for us this year and you need a big squad in this sport.”

Town have been hit by a number of injuries during the season and currently have four players sidelined until the end of the season.

“We lost Dan Rooney in pre-season, Graeme Mattinson and Latu Fifita during the year and Kurt Horton had surgery on his knee on Saturday,” Veivers continued.

“It’s touch and go whether or not Kurt will play for us again this year but it’s tough when you lose that many players.”

Speaking about his new signing for 2016, Veivers added: “Declan was keen to sign for us and I was keen for him to come to the club.

“He has speed, he can defend and he can tackle. He’s got all the attributes we would want in a player.”
