Phil Veivers admits it will be a fantastic 'headache' when he can pick his team through merit and not just who is fit.

The Workington Town boss is hoping that a few more bodies will return ahead of the Bradford game next weekend.

He expects Jarrad Stack and Perry Whiteley to both have recovered from knocks and be in contention as the squad starts to return to normal.

"It gives me a great headache as a coach, to be able to pick players on merit," admitted Veivers.

"Coming into the Bradford game I expect the majority of lads will have returned and Alex Szostak and Latu Fifita are not far away.

"We want to be winning games and I am trying to come up with a combination that can get us there."

Both Town and Bradford have a free weekend before they prepare to meet at Odsal next Sunday as they are both out of the Challenge Cup.

And the Bulls assistant coach Matt Diskin has just been named as Batley's new boss to replace John Kear for the 2017 season.

Diskin has signed a three-year deal from October with the Bulldogs but will continue in his current role with Bradford until the end of the current campaign.

But the former hooker wants to finish his time at Odsal on a high.

He said: "We’ve had a tough start to the season but the result last Sunday was a big positive and a great confidence boost.

"It is important we develop from that performance and build for the rest of the season as we aim to conclude the year in the Qualifiers.

"Players returning from injury will strengthen the competition for places, which is a big positive when we aim to finish the year strongly."
