Workington Town prop forward Tom Walker believes fans haven’t seen the best of him yet after putting pen to paper to a new two-year deal at the club.

The former Town academy player rejoined the club after a stint at Warrington Wolves and has made 27 appearances this season, missing just one game.

Town also announced yesterday that prop forward Kris Coward has also signed a 12-month extension to his deal at Zebra Claims Stadium.

“I’ve really enjoyed this year,” Walker said. “I don’t think I’ve got used to the Championship yet because I’d only played at academy level before this year.

“I’ve definitely matured as a player and I’m delighted to be back, I couldn’t be in a happier place playing for my home town team.

“I don’t think the fans have seen the best of me yet, there’s still more to give.”

Walker said that he had learned a lot from the senior players in the side in his first year in the professional game, including Coward and his fellow front-rower Marc Shackley.

“Kris and Marc have brought on leaps and bounds,” Walker added. “I think this league is a lot tougher than Super League, it may not be as fast but it’s more physical and they’ve really helped me out in preparing for games.

“They are experienced players and they are keeping the younger lads in check.”

Walker has been named in the 19-man squad for his side’s trip to London Broncos tomorrow and the youngster believes that Town could challenge for third place in the Championship Shield table.

“It’s a tough place to go to but there’s no reason why we can’t go there and get a result,” he added. “We can beat any of the teams in this league on our day.”

Town travel to London on the back of Monday’s impressive 62-0 win over Doncaster and they have won six of their last seven games, including a 29-18 win over London at home in July.

A win will move them to within three points of the Broncos with two games to play.

Nathan Lucock has again been named in the side as Callum Phillips recovers from a neck injury.

Town’s 19-man squad: Akehurst, Carter, Coward, Doran, Forber, Forrester,Lucock, McAvoy, Mossop, Murphy, Olstrom, B Phillips, Ritson, Sammut, Scholey, Shackley Stack, Walker, Whiteley.
