Workington Town vice chairman Mark Fryer says the coach and players are determined to turn around the club's fortunes on the pitch.

Fryer admitted the last few months have been tough for the club but he stated that nobody has given up and retaining Championship status was still their number one goal.

"We know that it is tough right now but it is all about remaining positive," he urged.

"We have got the team to stay up. I was bitterly disappointed at Blackpool both at the result and the performance because in the previous weeks we were getting better.

"We have got to look at ourselves for the loss at Blackpool. The directors, coaching staff and the players. It is up to us now to gel together.

We have about 15 games left and I have sat down with the coach and he is well aware of what is required and we haven't moved off our goal of remaining in the Championship."

Fryer praised the fans that have backed the club through thick and thin and admitted he empathised with their frustration at the lack of results.

But he also urged them to stick with the side and help them get back on track.

"The support of the fans has been fantastic both home and away," he said.

"People who have come along to watch us this season will know there have been a few games that could have gone either way.

"But we have sometimes lacked that steely edge. The Championship is moving up in quality and sometimes that intensity hasn't gone into our team but the boys know what they need to do and they are up for the challenge."

He added: "As a club it is now about how we deal with the pressure. It has been difficult and we are well aware that we are sitting on the rugby league margins.

"But one thing is very clear and that is this club will not stay up without the support of its fans.

"Our supporters groups, The Travellers Rest, The Redhouse and the ladies committee have been sensational for us.

"We know that there are always detractors but right now we need to focus on the positive.

"People who have followed the game for any length of time know that we have depth with the quality of players," said Fryer.

"And sometimes we are left scratching our heads when a good team on paper doesn't deliver the goods on the field.

"Maybe it is about the lads on the pitch but for now we have to pull together."

With the Super Eights looming and Town adrift at the bottom of the Championship, results are getting more crucial each week.

And with Bradford Bulls heading to the Zebra Claims Stadium this Sunday, ko 3pm, there is no better place to kick start the remainder of the season.

"

We have to start with Bradford on Sunday. It is not enough any more for us to target games against the teams around us in the table," he admitted.

"If we want to stay up then we have to pull out the performances against the league's so-called big guns, the teams who are seen to be the top guaranteed Championship sides.

"This is now the target to pull out all the stops so that we don't let ourselves down and, more importantly, we don't let our fans down.

"I know that the lads are working hard to turn this around and a good performance against Bradford is now a must.

"I understand it is hard to keep up the positivity at times but we have to.

"Nobody is going to get us out of this but ourselves. We have to do this for us. It is up to the coaching staff and the 17 players out on the pitch."
