Town club captain Jason Mossop admits he will be proud to wear his testimonial shirt in the Good Friday League One derby against Whitehaven.

Workington will walk out at Derwent Park in Mossop’s colours instead of their usual blue and white to mark the centre’s testimonial year.

And Mossop admitted it would make the derby game even more special for him.

“It will be really nice to wear the shirt, which has a bit of my background in there,” explained Mossop.

“The shirt is in my old amateur club Hensingham’s colours of red and black, so it will be good for me and for my family.”

But Mossop is also keen to play a big part in his first derby of the season, after missing the Ike Southward Memorial and the iPro cup victories through injury.

And he says this game will be completely different from the previous ones for both sides.

“It will be a completely different game. The last time we met was the friendly and the iPro Cup,” he added.

“No disrespect to the cup as we would have liked to progress but these kind of games were used to prepare ourselves for the league.

“They give us an opportunity to try other things but this game is in the league, so it is the most important fixture we’ve had this year so far.

“It is one of the main games we look forward to all season.”

Mossop was given a testimonial by the RFL for 10 years’ service to Workington Town and the game of rugby league.

The special shirts will be auctioned off in the bar after the match.
