Workington Town have moved quickly to extend the loans of Danny Rasool and Kyle Shelford as they head into the League One Super 8s.

The duo have impressed the coaching staff and fans at Derwent Park after coming in to help bolster the squad throughout the League One season.

Head coach Dave Clark and the Town board of directors have moved to ensure the duo are with Workington through to the end of the 2017 season.

Town chairman, Garry Mounsey, said: “Both Kyle and Danny have been great additions to the squad.

“Danny has been with us for the last few weeks and Kyle since the beginning of the season.

“As well as their on-field contributions, they are great guys to have around the team, and we’ll look forward to seeing their contributions during the Super 8s.”

Warrington Reserve centre Rasool joined on an initial month’s loan at the end of June.

But Town boss Dave Clark has been impressed by the youngster and is keen to see him stay.

Loose-forward Shelford, from World Club champions Wigan Warriors, has spent a couple of loan spells at Derwent Park this season.

The former England Academy captain joined at the start of the season from Wigan but has been troubled by injury.

But Mounsey added that he is expected to return to the ranks shortly and add some firepower to the pack.

Mounsey said: “Kyle should be back shortly from injury so will join Phil Joseph, Joe Ryan, Tom Curwen and Kris Coward back in contention, giving us extra firepower in the forwards for some tough encounters over the next few weeks.”

Town start their Super 8s campaign on the road to Newcastle Thunder on Sunday, July 30.
