Workington Town prop Tom Curwen will miss this weekend's West Cumbrian derby through injury.

The former Seaton amateur missed last Sunday trip to Keighley with a shoulder injury and it has failed to clear up this week.

Town director of rugby Les Ashe admitted the in-form forward would be a huge miss to Workington's pack.

"Tom's injury just hasn't cleared up so he won't be able to play his part against Whitehaven," said Ashe.

"He will be a big miss for us as he has put in some really strong performances for us and it is a shame, as a local player, that he will miss a derby game.

"Tom has been a great find for us this season and he has come on in leaps and bounds."

Another forward who has stolen the headlines this season, Stevie Scholey, will be assessed in training this week to see if he will feature.

Scholey picked up an illness that ruled him out of training last week and he dropped out of Sunday's squad to face Keighley.

But Ashe says he will be assessed again this week before any decision is made.

"We will have to see how Stevie has been but we are hopeful that he might be able to return for us," added Ashe.

Although Town are now out of the race for the play-offs, Ashe admitted that there would still be plenty of pride to play for against their old rivals at Derwent Park, ko 3pm.

"At the end of the day it is a derby game and these are the games that everyone wants to play in," said Ashe.

"There will be plenty of pride and passion on show as both sides will be out to try and take the win.

"This is a big game, especially for our supporters, and local bragging rights are at stake.

"So we will go out and do our best to get the win and provide the fans with a fitting end to the season."
