Workington Town have swooped back into the loan market ahead of their crunch league clash with Barrow tomorrow night.

Talented young Wigan full-back Gabriel Fell is the latest Warrior to join the Town cause on an initial short-term loan.

It is hoped he will provide cover at full-back following the knee injury which has put Tee Ritson out of action for a few months.

Fell, a product of the Wigan Academy, is renowned for his pace and try-scoring ability. He was 2015 Academy Player of the Year and scored 12 tries in 21 appearances.

He was promoted to the Wigan first team in 2016 and he will join fellow Wigan star Macauley Davies in the Town squad.

Town head coach Dave Clark said: “We’ve been looking for a player to cover for Tee while experimenting with other Town players at full back.

“This will allow us to play other players in their natural positions.

“We have a great relationship with the World Club champions and we’re looking to develop that further, particularly off the pitch during 2017.”

Fell will go straight into the Town squad which heads to Craven Park tomorrow night to take on top of the league Barrow, kick-off 6.30pm.

Town director of rugby Les Ashe added: “He will go right in as it is a positional change.

"Ed Chamberlain has done a sterling job for us there but we believe his future with us is at his best position of centre.

“Until we know exactly what is happening with Tee, then we needed to bring in a specialist full-back with that little bit of experience.”

Town are also still without prop Phil Joseph who underwent a knee clear-out operation earlier this week.

Joseph will now begin his rehab and Ashe hopes he will be back in the squad at the start of next month.
