Workington Town will not change their approach against League One leaders Toronto despite the previously undefeated Wolfpacks losing at York last Sunday.

The table-toppers were stunned 26-16 at Bootham Crescent in their opening game of the Super Eights, while Town started with a win at Newcastle Thunder, but assistant coach Jonty Gorley expects the plan to remain the same.

Toronto travel to Derwent Park on Sunday (3pm kick-off) and Gorley wants the home players to earn a fair share of the ball and complete their sets if they are to build on their victory against Thunder.

He said: “It hasn’t changed our approach; we will still put our strongest side out and give it a good go.

“It is about competing and getting an even share of the ball with teams like this.

“If you do that, you are in with a chance and we competed quite well against them last time.

“They’re a full-time side and sometimes you’ve just got to give it your best shot.”

Knights’ win pleased Gorley as it proved the Wolfpack are not unbeatable but he acknowledged that the result could make them even more determined to bounce back against Town.

“I don’t know if it’s a good thing for us or not but it was great to see York beat them,” he added.

“York were very impressive when we lost there the other week and, if anybody was going to give Toronto a test, it was going to be them.

“People weren’t expecting them to be beaten at all this year, so that defeat last weekend will just reinforce their mentality.

“We will give it everything like I imagine York did.”

Town are sweating on the fitness of Carl Forber, who will be assessed at training today, while Sunday’s game is likely to be too soon for Phil Joseph.
