While Workington started the Eights with a win over Newcastle Thunder last Sunday, the Wolfpack suffered their first defeat of the season at York and Phillips is looking forward to the opportunity to cause a further upset at Derwent Park tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).
“I always like to challenge myself and it’s going to be a tough test,” he said. “As a player, you want to play against the best and obviously Toronto are the best team at the minute.
“Confidence is a massive thing, so it’s nice to get a win against a good team like Newcastle.
“Obviously, we need to work to string some together now.
“We’ll approach it the same way as we always do, sticking in and being ruthless with ourselves. To compete against the big teams, you have got to do all the little things right.”
The Thunder victory was the ideal way to cap Phillips’ 150th career game but he was more pleased by the way Town played to their strengths to get the result.
He said: “It was nice to get a win for my 150th game but you don’t think about that on game day, you’re just focused on the task at hand. It was a really good performance.
“We played for the full 80 minutes and everybody dug in to hold on.That’s the sort of mentality you’ve got to have whereas, a lot of times, we’ve beaten ourselves in games.”
