Workington Town out to extend McGoff loan time

WORKINGTON Town boss Gary Charlton is hoping to extend the loan period of strong-running young prop Ruairi McGoff.
The Barrow forward came to Derwent Park on a month’s loan which will shortly be finishing and Charlton, with fellow coach Martin Oglanby, is keen to hang on to the 25-year-old former Roose and Ulverston amateur.
Charlton said: “We will definitely be wanting to extend the deal, if Barrow are agreeable. Ruairi has got a good engine and his work rate is very good.
“He has made a couple of little errors but we are working on that. He hadn’t had a lot of time on the field at Barrow so he will only get better with more playing time.”
McGoff featured for Barrow’s reserve grade last year and signed on again for 2010. He also played for Cumbria ARL in the Carnegie Nines tournament.
Second-rower Jarrad Stack was back in training on Tuesday night but Charlton says he is still a doubt to take to the field for Sunday’s Carnegie Challenge Cup third round tie at Featherstone (3pm ko).
There is also worry hanging over Kris Coward, who did not take part in any contact training.
And fellow forward Dean Bragg is virtually ruled out of the clash after injuring his neck in the opening league game against the South Wales Scorpions last weekend.
Charlton said: “Anybody who is not 100 per cent fit won’t be playing but this gives us a chance to look at other players.”
