Our war heroes will be honoured at a series of events across west Cumbria.
Members of the public are invited to attend parades, concerts and fun days in the lead up to national Armed Forces Day on Saturday June 30.
The first event will take place at Allerdale House on Monday June 25, to kick off the festivities.
Allerdale Borough Council has organised a short parade and flag-raising ceremony, including cadets and civic dignitaries.
At 10.30am, the mayor will give a short speech in honour of those who have dedicated their lives to serving the country in the armed forces, before Reverend Rowe from St Michael’s Church, in Workington, says a prayer as the flag is raised.
That Friday Maryport & District Combined Services Association RV is hosting a fun event including entertainment by Just Steve.
It runs from 5.30pm until 11.55pm at The Navy Club, in Irish Street, Maryport. Entry is available to everyone, of all ages, costs £3 and is admission by wristband only.
On Armed Forces Day itself, Workington Royal British Legion will be parading through Workington itself at 11am.
They are calling on members of the public to come out and support the marching cadets, veterans, serving personnel and their proud families, before enjoying afternoon entertainment at the Royal British Legion Club in St John’s Court.
Displays, a tea dance and then live music will allow people to celebrate in style, while raising money for the Poppy Appeal.
