AN internationally-renowned baroque supergroup will be performing live in Cumbria to promote their new record.

Red Priest will be performing live at The Kirkgate, in Cockermouth, on Friday October 6 as part of the Baroque Bohemians tour.

The acclaimed quartet, led by recorder player Piers Adams and the devilish fiddler, Adam Summerhayes, transform into a wild live band.

They relive the extraordinary virtuosity of early Bohemian baroque masters, explore melodies from a 1730 Slovakian fiddler’s tune-book, revel in the gypsy-influenced music of Telemann, and re-imagine music by Handel and the original Red Priest, Antonio Vivaldi – all in their own inimitable, high-octane style.

For 20 years now, the irrepressible musicians of Red Priest have been delighting audiences worldwide with their bold and original take on music of the baroque.

Music by Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel, Biber, Byrd, Mielczewski and Hungarian folk melodies all feature in their latest tour.

In addition to touring all over the world, Red Priest are a frequent guest on BBC Radio 3's In Tune programme, and lay claim to being the only early music group in the world to have been compared in the press to the Rolling Stones, Jackson Pollock, the Marx Brothers, Spike Jones and the Cirque du Soleil.

Founded in 1997, and named after the flame-haired priest, Antonio Vivaldi, Red Priest has given several hundred sell-out concerts in many of the world’s most prestigious festivals, including the Hong Kong Arts Festival, Moscow December Nights Festival, Schwetzingen Festival, Prague Spring Festival, Ravinia Festival, Bermuda Festival, and in most European countries, Japan, Australia, and throughout North and Central America.

In 2008 Red Priest launched its own record label, Red Priest Recordings, which is now the home for all of the recordings of the ensemble and its members, and has attracted much attention in the music press worldwide.

Red Priest appear at The Kirkgate on Friday October 6, from 7.30pm, and tickets are available from the venue's box office.
