COCKERMOUTH composer John Wiseman has made a swift return with his second album in as many months.

The prolific 20-year-old has had music featured on BBC Introducing multiple times, and is currently studying music composition at the University of Hertfordshire.

Though the multi-instrumentalist's August debut - An Odd Collection - was heavy on synthesizers and electronic instrumentals, the new release, Not One Step Back, marks a shift to a darker, more rock-influenced sound.

He said: "I wanted to continue developing my sound - An Odd Collection was great, but Not One Step Back is a more defined sound whilst keeping the same musical variety

"This album is electro pop/rock. That slight change has gone down really well and I'd say this album is even more varied than the last.

"As Not One Step Back is a concept album, it feels like something completely new."

The new album has been warmly received, and John is now playing some of the tracks in his live shows.

"I've played some of the tracks live and am planning some gigs in the near future.

"I'm back at uni now, but I have begun work on my next concept album which will hopefully be released around December," he added.

Along with his own music and academic commitments, John is also working on a project with his band Personal Voyeur.

"Whilst working on the next concept album I will also be recording an album for my band, and I've also got some collaborative work lined up for the coming months."
