Loan star Anthony Mullally is in contention for his first taste of a west Cumbrian derby following his international debut at the weekend.
Mullally started at prop in an inexperienced Ireland’s 62-4 defeat to England Knights on Saturday, in which ex-Workington Town hooker Shaun Lunt turned out for the Knights.
And after impressing in Whitehaven’s win over South Wales last week, he is likely to be in the reckoning for Sunday’s short trip to Workington.
“If it’s anything like Widnes/Warrington it’s going to be a big game,” said Mullally, who has joined Haven on loan from the Vikings for the rest of the season.
Barry Richardson, Haven chief executive, is confident the front-rower has a future at the top of the sport.
“He’s only been here a week, but he’s given the team a lift,” said Richardson.
“Anthony is a bit of a handful and came on really strong in the second-half against South Wales. He’s going to be a Super League player of the future, without question. At 20 years old he is quite physical, with that robustness on the field, and he is a good athlete, as well as being a genuinely nice young man.
“At the moment we have a team that’s more than capable of making progress in the league, and in the play-offs.”
