Wigton RU sign ex-Scotland Sevens captain Mark Lee

Wigton have pulled-off a rugby union coup by signing former Scotland Sevens captain Mark Lee.

The 32-year-old back-row forward has moved with his wife Jenny, and two children, to farm at Torpenhow after leaving The Army.

The couple went to university together in Newcastle and the move to Cumbria is to take over the running of Jenny’s family’s farm.

Mark skippered Scotland Sevens at the 2002 Commonwealth Games after previously skippering Jed Forest and playing for the Borders, Edinburgh and Heriots.

He then joined the Army and led them at Twickenham in April.

Malcolm Brown the Wigton head coach, clearly delighted by the signing, said: “I’ve obviously been reading all about his career on the internet and he has some impressive stats.

“His experience and qualities are clearly going to be a major asset to us.

“He will be based locally at Torpenhow and he has looked to be in good shape at the training sessions he has attended.”

Meanwhile Silloth Tigers have welcomed back their former star Norman Reilly and as well as a more than useful player, are getting a new coach as well.

Reilly has recently become a level two qualified coach and as well as signing to play this season he has joined Mark Orchard and Darren Irwin on the coaching staff at the club.

Reilly becomes Silloth’s seventh summer signing.

He joins the ex-Netherhall pair Andrew Patterson and Lee Tinkler, while Gareth Nicholson has returned to the club.
