Workington Comet Kenny Ingalls will be flying over to Poland this week as part of America’s team for the World Cup.

Ingalls has been drafted into the team as a precautionary measure after world champion Greg Hancock injured himself in Denmark and will practice with the team on Friday and Saturday.

He joins 1996 world champion Billy Hamill, Ryan Fisher and Ricky Wells in the team that will take on Russia, Poland and Denmark. However, he will only race if Hancock is not fit enough.

Ingalls said: “We don’t know what the team is going to be yet due to the situation with Greg. He is going to push the issue but if I don’t race it will still be good to be able to practice on the big tracks. It is my fourth time riding for America in the World Cup and it is a cool experience, especially as we have two world champions in the team.

“This is the biggest one for me because we are in the first round and because of the team we have it is definitely one for the scrapbook.”

It means Ingalls will miss Workington’s match with Somerset on Saturday.

Ingalls is also celebrating being signed for Elite league club Wolverhampton doubling up with Redcar rider Matej Kus. Ingalls had originally signed for fellow Elite League side for Swindon but was released following a shoulder injury earlier on in the season.

He is hoping to prove to the Wolves that he is the favoured rider over Kus.

He said: “It is awesome being back in the Elite League, it is what I’ve been shooting for and will get me more seat time.”

Ingalls has also praised Rusty Harrison who quit the club on Saturday.

He added: “Rusty was a really good rider as well as a good team mate and always a solid performer. Hopefully we can get someone in there who can match his performances as well as being a good team mate.”
