Workington Comets boss mulls options if Rene Bach not fit

Workington Comets team manager Tony Jackson might use rider replacement instead of a guest if number one Rene Bach is not fit for tonight’s match with Sheffield.
Bach suffered head, back and hand injuries in a crash with Redcar’s Aaron Summers on Thursday.
Jackson said it was too early to say whether the Danish star would be fit for tonight and would wait to see what the situation was before making a decision.
Jackson said: “At home I would like to think we would do as well if not better with rider replacement as we would with any guest. If we used rider replacement all the riders could take a ride but there are plenty of options. I would still be disappointed if we lost at home.”
If Workington overcome Sheffield they will book their place in the League Cup semi-final one match ahead of schedule.
They will almost certainly face either Ipswich or Somerset who are battling it out at the top of the southern section.
Jackson said the team are showing good form going into the league season, which will not get into full swing until June, with only one Premier League match this month.
He said: “We are still taking it just one match at a time but we still want to finish top of the table.
“We have got a home match against Newcastle in the League Cup and if we beat them it is job done.
“We only have one league match in May against Edinburgh next weekend.”
Workington provided 10 race winners on Thursday night against Redcar from five different riders.
It was the first time the team had used their new rider line up.
