Workington Comets off yet again

Workington Comets suffered their third postponement within a week when their home match with Plymouth was called off early on Saturday morning.
Heavy overnight rain on Friday night meant the track was already suffering from a lot of water and with more rain forecast during the afternoon an early decision was taken to postpone the meeting to save the Plymouth team from a long journey.
This was in addition to the postponements at Leicester last Sunday and Somerset on Friday.
It proved to be the right decision as heavy rain set in from 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
Team manager Tony Jackson said: “The last week has been very frustrating for both the management and the riders but there is nothing you can do about the weather.
“We got a lot of rain on Friday night and because we had put down a bit of extra clay to try and keep the dust down the damage was done.
“With the rain we had it shows it was the right decision to call it off or the meeting could have been like the Leicester match last week.”
The recent postponements have meant a busy couple of weeks for Jackson who has been trying to fit in all the rearranged matches.
The proposed home match with Newcastle has now been moved forward a week to July 2 with Plymouth possibly coming to Derwent Park on July 9.
