Workington Reds boss Darren Edmondson has identified the players he believes will improve his squad.
After securing their place in the Blue Square North next season on the final day, the 40-year-old has worked tirelessly to draw up a shortlist of targets.
Some of the players he’s chasing have been released by Football League clubs, while others are experienced non-league players.
Progress has been slow with players assessing their options before committing.
But Edmondson said that was normal practice and added: “I have spoken with a number of players, but we are some way off having deals completed.
“It’s a waiting game, but the lads I have had contact with would definitely improve on what we already have.”
Edmondson expects a number of new faces to take part in training when the players return from their holidays next month.
He said: “It won’t be until we get together before any deals are done. We want to see them in action, and make sure they are the right type of player for us.”
- Workington are still organising pre-season friendlies and hope to have Carlisle United visit Borough Park on July 17.
Confirmed friendlies include Barrow’s visit on July 27 with the two teams battling for the Chas Kendall Trophy.
Trips to Lancaster City on August 4 and Kendal Town on August 11 have also been arranged. A game with Silloth is also being planned.
