Talks are underway to extend the loan spells of James Bolton and Will Vaulks, with Workington boss Darren Edmondson branding the duo an integral part of his plans.
The Reds supremo has been speaking with officials at Macclesfield and Tranmere in a bid to keep the young prospects past their existing deals, which run out in two weeks.
Bolton has been consistently one of Reds’ top performers in defence, and is seen as a major part of the squad.
Vaulks’ passing and drive in midfield has seen him earn rave reviews.
Edmondson said: “For such a young lad, James’ composure is incredible. He’s been a star for us and he’s got a fantastic future ahead of him. I am working on keeping both James and Will for a lot longer, but it’s not just down to us.
“Other clubs are interested in them because they have done so well and proven how talented they are. Will wants to play football for us, and I don’t see the point of him going back to Tranmere not to play regularly.
“I want to extend James’ deal until the end of the season, and see what the situation with Will’s deal is, and see what we can do.”
Both are free to play in this weekend’s FA Trophy match with Reds travelling to Ossett Town.
There is £4,000 on offer to the winner of the third qualifying round.
Edmondson said: “That kind of money is vital to the club, so we will be taking this competition very seriously.”
