The wide player starred for Lancaster in Evo-Stik Division One North last year and has been scouted by boss Darren Edmondson for 12 months.

Admitting being impressed with the Giant Axe flyer since he teamed up with the rest of his squad for training, Edmondson expects to have at least five trialists expected on show for the match which kicks off at Holker Street at 7.30pm.

Released Morecambe youngsters Niall Cowperthwaite, who can play at right back or in the middle of defence, and midfielder Chris Wraighte are also expected to play.

Barrow-born Cowperthwaite stands at 5ft 11in and made 10 appearances for the League Two club.

A goalkeeper and at least one other trialist will be part of the Workington side.

Edmondson said: “Zach is a player who has caught my eye, and he will play a part tonight.

“We will have probably five or six trialists, with every player given minutes on the pitch.

“The game has come a bit early in pre-season, but we will use this time to evaluate the players training with the squad ahead of the new season.

“We will not be rushing into anything, but it’s important to see what everyone can do.

“Zach is a footballer that is interesting. He can play on the wing or up front, so it’s great to have him with us to see what he can do.

“Niall and Chris are young, but have talent. They will stay with us for a few weeks.”

Ex-Reds midfielder Shaun Vipond has ended speculation about his future by committing to relegated Blyth Spartans.

Vipond had spoken to Edmondson about a return to Borough Park, but failed to show up to training.
