Workington Town set to bond before start of new season

Workington Town will hold a second team-bonding session this weekend just one week before the Championship season kicks-off.
Town travel to take on Steve McCormack’s Swinton Lions for the opener on Sunday week and, although the lack of friendlies hasn’t been ideal for Town, injuries and suspensions have left them short on numbers.
“We are tying the weekend in with having the team photo taken,” said joint coach Martin Oglanby. “On Saturday we’ll be going to Xtreme Sports again to put the lads through their paces. And on Sunday we’ll be having a semi-contact game with amateurs Ellenborough to sharpen up our moves and try a few patterns in preparation for the opening game at Swinton.
“Not all the players were able to attend the last team-bonding session but they will all be there this weekend”
Town went down 30-6 at Widnes Vikings a couple of weeks ago in their only pre-season friendly.
And, although that might not be the ideal situation going into their opening league match – Town had nine probable first-teamers injured or suspended – they would have found it difficult to field a team before the big kick-off.
“Preparation for the season has gone well,” added Oglanby. “Conditioning and training has been first class, even though we’ve been without injured players.”
